“Briita is the most professional teacher ever and is really talented and amazing and caring with kids. Highly recommend.”
— Joey Degraaf
“Briita has been my daughter’s piano teacher for years now and she absolutely loves her! Briita has a passion for teaching and so she takes time to personalize her teaching style to each child and adapts as needed. She even went out of her way to come watch my daughter play in a small talent show with her church group when my daughter invited her.”
— Alicia Jakeman
“Briita is a great piano teacher for our 6 year old! definetely recommend!”
— Shannon Dado
“Briita is the most awesome teacher ever. She helps adults who are really scared to learn and is awesome with kids of all ages. She is totally patient and will design a specific learning plan around your individual needs.”
— Neil Asmund
“Briita has the rare talent of encouraging her students to strive forward playing pieces they enjoy while balancing the addition of the technical aspects of the piano which are not nearly as much fun, but totally necessary for skill progressionl As an adult student retuning to the piano, I felt supported and made much faster progress that I expected un der her tutelage. She gave me new ideas on how to practice pieces and shared historical notes about composers which made it more interesteing. I highly recommend her.”

About Me:

Hi! I’m Briita Asmund! (Bree-tuh Az-mund) I am a traveling Piano Teacher based in Richland Washington. I am passionate about playing the piano and it is my life mission to share the love of music others.

My Journey began in 2017 when I first started teaching piano and was still in high school. I only had one student and I was teaching out of my parent’s house. Over the past 10 years I’ve gotten my bachelor’s degree, taught over 50 students and grown my buisiness to over 20 students. I’m an active member of the Tri City MTNA chatper and I gave a presentation on piano games for young children in 2019.

I specialize in teaching younger students under the age of 6. I have had succcess teaching 3 and 4 year olds. I also can teach students of higher levels that are at the end of lesson books or have surpassed lesson books.

My proudest Musical Journey:

Originally when I auditioned to be a piano major at BYU-idaho, it was suggested that I not go into both the musiscianship and piano performance department.

I moved back in with my parents and nearly gave up on my career and education.

I emailed Cynthia vaughn, the owner of Magnolia Music studio and asked if she would consider hiring me.

At first she rejected my request because I did not have a degree in music and I was only 19 years old, but she saw some of my posts on facebook and was inspired by how much passion I had for my work and felt inspired to hire me.

This changed my life. Had I not been hired by Cynthia, I would have given up on my degree and career. Cynthia suggested I take lessons from Patti Robertson who brought my piano playing level up to BYU-idaho standards.

I decided to take courses at CBC and my professor, Bruce Walker, helped bring my music theory, musicianship and music history skills up to passing levels.

When Covid 19 hit and BYU-Idaho offered online courses, I took some classes and realized I was able to pass due to the help of Patti, Cynthia and Bruce. I moved out of my parents house and back to Rexburg and finished my degree.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that every person is unique and should be taught according to their specific learning style and needs.

I do not use the same method book series with all of my students. I take the time to get to know them—how they play and how they learn. At the first lesson I take a guess and give them a book and if it doesn’t work, we swap it out.
